 Travelling My Way?

You are Invited to this Community Event at 

the Saturna Café 

 Saturday April 15:  3 pm to 5 pm 

Travelling My Way?  is the title that invites you to the new art show at the Saturna Café, presented from April 1-26.  

You are invited to enjoy an artist-hosted reception with snacks, wine (cash bar and perhaps even wine-tasting hosted by Shane) ... as well as art on  April 15 , from 3 pm to 5pm.

 

The show features a selection of paintings by local artist, Janet Strayer, created during her recent months of travel and living in Provence, Umbria, Sicily, and Mexico. It was a real 'freedom trip' after much confinement, and the show reflects this in its variety and sense of exploration and wonder. 

Back home now on Saturna Island, Janet's show shares many experiences en route.

For example, the painting below (Postcards from Pirandello) is reminiscent of wonderful times spent in Italy, a renaissance culture of past and present in  a painting that mixes  absurd and sublime elements of Italian life.

Her Birdwoman character (shown on Cafe wall with a bit of light glare from window) re-appears in different guises and settings, as do paintings inspired by the different moods, sights, and sensations of travelling and life in interesting locations.

 ArtSaturna--In a Group

 

Each month all year ArtSaturna, a group of visual artists working on Saturna Island, installs shows by different member artists here at the Saturna Café. For the 2022 finale, ArtSaturna is pleased to present works by various of its members.

 

The mediums of these artworks differ; the subject matter is varied; the styles are individual. The thread that links them is the ArtSaturna group itself.  Artists, individual, independent, and sometimes solitary, find comaraderie and support together.  ‘In a Group’ celebrates this collective.

 

As 2022 closes, ArtSaturna invites you to enjoy this show and look forward to the new shows of 2023.

On a beautiful sunny afternoon, several artists got together for a paint-in.

The mural is really coming to life.

Following that lovely afternoon, the forecast predicts rainy days ahead.
It's just a pause, though. The artists will get back to finish the project
as soon as the weather clears. Stay tuned for updates!

Our community project at the Saturna ball field building is coming along very nicely. We are starting to add colour...

And we are now mixing colours for the sunset section.

 ArtSaturna is excited to be creating a mural at Hunter Field! 

The return of fall: moving indoors

We are still waiting for rain on this parched island. We can feel the seasonal change in temperatures, but the sun is still with us for another while...

For me, this month signals fewer gardening duties and a return indoors to get going in the studio. My partner in crime, Ellen Bourassa, and I are preparing for a show at the Saturna Café this November. Green is the theme. With a few other colours, of course!

 

2022 Art Tour on Saturna

Artists invite you to their studios and locations, including the Community Hall. It's going to be a very interesting show with a diversity of media and styles.

Art is LIVE on Saturna Island!

 A magical little island at the southern-most tip of the Gulf Islands, Saturna Island hosts
 a surprising variety of artists. Finally, after the many restrictions imposed by the Corona pandemic,   Saturna's artists are here to invite you to see art LIVE! 

 Art Saturna artists have opened their studios for visits, along with a number of
 art events that are happening this summer. These include the multi-island Tour des Îles 
 on June 24-26 and the local Saturna Art Tour on July 30-31. As well, the local art
 featured at the Art Show at the Saturna  Café beside the Saturna General Store 
 is always a treat that changes monthly.
