Here are a few images from our spring 2019 ArtSaturna show at the cafe.  Chef Hubertus Surm made us a wonderful dinner Saturday night to celebrate spring and all new work on display. The show continues to May 29.

On Saturday March 31, the Community Hall will be open for fun activities from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and visitors can preview the show.

On Sunday and Monday, Artists will be present from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Community Hall group shows

In conjunction with the Tour des Iles, ArtSaturna members had a group show at the newly renovated Saturna Community Hall.  It was such a pleasure to hang our work in the well-lit, newly drywalled and painted lounge area.

We will also hang a group show August 5-6 in conjunction with the 2017 Artists' Studio tour taking place that weekend.  Hours are 11-4 for the Tour and the group show.  Please come by!

Happy Spring, and the Show is Ongoing!

Spring is in the air, and the current exhibition of works by Saturna artists continues until May. If you are down at the Pub for lunch, or waiting for the ferry, why not come into the store and gallery, and have a look?

Springs hours for the store are Mondays and Fridays, 10 am - 2 pm
Saturdays 9:30 am - 5:30 pm and Sundays, 9:30 am - 4:30 pm

Karen Muntean: "Home & Away" Show

Here are a couple photos from the opening of "Home & Away", my show of new linocuts at Saturna Café that runs until February 27, 2014. 

Hubertus served up a fabulous meal for nineteen after the opening, which made it a really nice evening for me.  Thank you to everyone who came to look, talk and share a glass of wine.

Opening Reception at Insight Gallery, Galiano

On a beautiful day, seven Saturna artists and a poet went on a boat ride and visited another island for a party... How much fun was it? Lots of fun!  Insight Gallery, on Galiano Island, warmly hosted the opening reception for the Saturna Artists Show, which continues until September 28. If you can get to Galiano, don't miss it.

It was exciting to see the array of styles and media on display in the gallery. 

We would like to thank Tish Saunders, artist and gallery owner, who organized this whole escapade for us, down to boat and bus transport. Tish invited an interested crowd to the opening and everyone was treated to a reading of select poems by Ellen McGinn.

It was a lively crowd, with loud conversations going on, a lot of networking, and we noticed some early  sales! Great vibe in the room...

Tish Saunders, above, introduced everyone and described the goal of this initiative, which is to build cultural links across the water, with the generous support of the Trincomali Community Arts Council. During the reception, we were able to meet many artists from Galiano and from Mayne islands, including several directors of the Trincomali Arts Council, which was an additional treat!

And after the party, while regretting that we had to go home... we certainly enjoyed the beauty of the sunset. A beautiful end to a visually-rich day.

Opening Reception - July Show

What to do, early on a Saturday evening on Saturna? Head for a Gallery Opening, of course.

Yesterday's ArtSaturna Opening was fun, it was hot, it was well-attended! Close to 60 people poured into the new Gallery space at the Saturna Point Store, to discover the work by Saturna Artists, and to schmooze... Many of the artists were present, and ready to answer questions about their work.

So, the next time you are at the Pub, or the store, or in line - waiting for the ferry - please come in, don't be shy!

Report on the October Show

During the Thanksgiving weekend, members of Art Saturna held their first art show at the Saturna Community Hall, a lovely heritage building located near the ferry landing. Paintings, drawings, photos, textile art, collages and weavings were on display, tempting visitors and islanders who wandered in the Hall during the afternoons of the show.

The artists are particularly thankful to the Community Club for its generous financing of the new display system. The system worked well, creating islands in the room and featuring colourful displays.

It was fun to see old friends and neighbours, and meet visitors who wandered in the Community Hall to have a look, because what else is there to do while waiting in line for the ferry?

The members of Art Saturna are already working out how to put the display system to good use in the coming months. Stay tuned!
